We bring together a diverse group of thinkers and makers for a weekend of collaboration, investigation, friendly competition (and maybe some dancing!). Across the weekend, teams can expect to create new services through a human-centered design process. Our mentors are there to guide you through the process and we end the event with a full-team share-out.

From Friday, March 9 to Sunday, March 11 teams around the world will be jamming — working together to design entirely new services in less than 48 hours! “The Jam” is a global, face-to-face event that happens once a year around the world, bringing together diverse and curious people with unique perspectives to spend a weekend learning new skills, meeting new collaborators and having fun prototyping new service concepts.

The Jam is for team players who:

  • Can commit to participating Friday night to Sunday afternoon
  • Want to get their hands dirty by prototyping and iterating on ideas with collaborative techniques like bodystorming, model-making, and scenario-building (and more!)
  • Have an open mind and a “let’s give it a go and see” attitude
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Are either beginners or experts 🙂

What to expect:

The challenge of the Jam is to identify a real-world need, ideate iteratively, and prototype service concepts. This is a weekend for you to ask “why” like a kid, dream big, work with like-minded people, and make stuff you believe in!

We’ll kick off the Jam on Friday night with dinner and expert-led activities on topics central to the Jam:

  • What’s a service?
  • Collaborating with strangers
  • Learning through making

Then you’ll join a small team, find out this year’s secret global theme, and start jamming! Along the way, we’ll have design mentors and a special “Service Design Clinic” available to guide and inspire you. By Sunday afternoon you and your team will share your new service with industry guest critics over celebratory refreshments before we move on to the Jam afterparty!

What NOT to expect:

  • To design polished presentations
  • To design only tech solutions


What it costs:
$39.95 per person, which includes the weekend’s meals, art supplies, design resources, studio space to work in, as well as design mentorship, guest speakers and critics, and — of course — a positive, memorable weekend.

Space is limited. While the interest in the Jam grows every year, we still believe in keeping the Jam to a size that fosters meaningful camaraderie and collaboration.
